University & College Selection for MBBS Abroad

Choosing a university for MBBS abroad is the decision that determines everything after it whether your degree is recognised in India, whether you can clear FMGE or NExT, and whether the fee you’re quoted today is the fee you’ll actually pay for six years. At USAC, this is where we start: before any application goes out, our counsellors run every shortlisted university through checks on regulatory standing, course duration, fee structure, and your own academic profile.

What our university and college search service actually does

We don’t hand you a printed list of “top 10 universities” and let you pick. Our admission counsellors sit down with your NEET score, your PCB percentage, your preferred countries, and your family’s budget, and use that to narrow down a working shortlist typically from our network of 500+ tied-up universities across 15+ countries. Every university we put in front of you has already been checked against India’s current recognition rules, not just against its own marketing brochure.

We work with universities in Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and other established MBBS destinations, along with the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada for students pursuing other courses. For MBBS specifically, USAC’s positioning is admission purely on merit, with no donation component. The shortlist we build is meant to hold up against that standard, not work around it.

How we shortlist universities: our actual process

  1. Profile and NEET review. Your counsellor reviews your NEET score, PCB percentage, and 10+2 marks against what different countries and universities currently require, so you’re not shortlisted for a seat you won’t actually be offered.
  2. Regulatory check. The National Medical Commission no longer publishes one fixed “approved list” of foreign medical universities. Instead, under the FMGL Regulations 2021, a university has to be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), recognised by its own country’s medical regulator, run a course of at least 54 months, and include a 12-month internship at the same institution. Our counsellors check each shortlisted university against these points before it goes on your list, not after you’ve paid a fee.
  3. Budget mapping. We lay out tuition, hostel, and living costs for each shortlisted option against your family’s budget, so there are no costs added on later that weren’t disclosed upfront.
  4. Comparison session. You and your parents go through the shortlist with your counsellor course structure, campus, climate, safety record, and existing USAC students already at that university, where we have them.
  5. Final selection and application. Once you choose, we handle the paperwork for that university’s application, which flows directly into our admission counselling, visa assistance, forex, and pre-departure services.

Eligibility, cost, and process — the facts

To be eligible for MBBS abroad as an Indian student, you generally need 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, at least 50% marks in PCB (40% for reserved categories, as per applicable regulations), and you must be at least 17 years old by 31 December of your admission year. NEET is compulsory if you intend to practice medicine in India after graduating this applies regardless of which country or university you choose.

Total cost, including tuition, hostel, and other academic expenses, generally runs ₹20 lakh to ₹45 lakh across the full course, depending on the country and university; this is meaningfully lower than many private medical colleges in India for a comparable degree. Course duration is a minimum of 54 months under current FMGL 2021 rules, including a 12-month internship completed at the same institution where you studied. These figures move year to year with NMC and university fee revisions, so we confirm the current numbers with you at the time of application rather than quoting last year’s figures.

Why choose USAC for university selection

USAC has placed 5,000+ students across 500+ tied-up universities in 15+ countries, run by a team of 24+ professional staff working out of our Nagpur head office and branches across Mumbai, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Wardha, and other cities. We’ve been named the most reliable MBBS abroad consultant in Vidarbha three years running, and we’re an ISO 9001:2015 accredited medical education facilitator. Over 96% of our students and parents report satisfaction with our service.

USAC was co-founded by Sohrab Khan, a Chartered Accountant, and Rukhmini Thakur, who holds an MA and MBA in HR & Finance and has personally counselled more than 7,000 students and parents over more than a decade in this industry. That combination of regulatory rigour from Mr. Khan’s background and direct, one-on-one counselling from Mrs. Thakur is what shapes how we build a university shortlist: checked against the rules first, matched to your budget and profile second.

FAQ

How do consultants actually shortlist universities for MBBS abroad?

A counsellor reviews your NEET score and PCB percentage, checks each candidate university against current NMC/FMGL recognition rules, maps out the full cost against your budget, and puts the resulting shortlist in front of you and your parents for a comparison session before any application goes out.

Is every university on your shortlist NMC approved?

NMC doesn’t maintain one fixed “approved list” anymore. Under the FMGL Regulations 2021, a university needs to be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, recognised by its home country’s medical regulator, and run a course of at least 54 months with a 12-month internship at the same institution we check each university against these points before shortlisting it for you.

Is NEET compulsory for MBBS abroad?

Yes — USAC’s admission process is built on merit, and we don’t route students through donation-based seats. Your shortlist is built from your NEET score and profile, not from which university pays the highest commission.
